As the government’s effort to boost tourism in Tibet, it has now made it easier for all the applications for the Tibet travel permit. Now Tibet travel permit will only take about seven days to 15 days, depending on the areas of the visit. International Travel would need to Tibet travel permit in addition to the Chinese Visa. If you are coming to Tibet from Kathmandu, either overland or on the flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa, you will need to get the Chinese Group visa from the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. Your existing valid Chinese Visa will be canceled for the group Visa. Your Tibet travel permit waits for you at the Chinese side of the Border, either Kyirong or the Lhasa Airport.
If you can coming to Tibet from other cities in China, you will have to get a regular Chinese Tourist visa from home. As of December of 2019, the Tibet tourism bureau has introduced a new Tibet travel permit. They have removed the holograph into the scan code. We hope this scan code could make it easier for people taking flight into Tibet to get into the plane easier without the requirement of getting the real permit in hand.
