Serchen Lhatso Lake is a beautiful high elevated lake in between Kongpo, Lhasa and Lhokha Prefecture. This lake is located near the Bala Pass and 149 Kilometers from Lhasa. An hour detour from the pass toward the Lhokha prefecture takes you to the lake. The lake is a top-rated pilgrim and tourist destination in Tibet.
History of Serchen Lhatso Lake
We believe the lake is resident of local Naga called Serchen of Medro. It is said to be so rich that it sponsors many monasteries including the Jokhang Temple and Drigung thil Monastery. There is a small well where Medro Serchen is said to appear to make the offering for the construction of the temple. In Drikung valley, there is a path visible which was said to be taken by Serchen after delivering the precious jewels for the monastery.

Tourist Guide to Serchen Lhatso Lake
Leave Lhasa in early in the morning to reach there in the noon. Behind the lake, there is a very beautiful off the beaten route to Wuka Choelung and other destination in Lhokha prefecture. On this route, there is a lovely Nomadic Pasture called Kundeling Nomadic pasture. You can also visit the Wuka Choelung Monastery.
Tsongkhapa had a vision of 35 Buddhas in his meditation, and they instructed him to redo all his preliminary practice at the Wuka. You can visit the monastery and place where Tsongkhapa is said to have complete his preliminary training. You can also visit the host spring belonging to the Tsongkhapa.
