Latest Tibet Travel Update for the Year 2025.

Unlike before, individual travelers traveling from Nepal to Tibet no longer require a Chinese group visa from the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. You can obtain a tourist visa on your passport and travel from Nepal to Tibet. Yet please do not tell anything about your plan to visit tibet while apply for the Visa.

It is a very common belief among travel agencies in Tibet that a Chinese Group visa is necessary when traveling to Tibet from Nepal ( both overland or via direct flight). I Tibet Travel, and Tours is the first travel agency in Tibet which have travelers coming to Tibet via Nepal without needing a mandatory Group Visa. Hence, if your country has a free visa policy from China. You don’t need to get a Chinese Group visa from Nepal.

China has recently taken unprecedented measures to attract international travelers by implementing a 15-day visa-free period for citizens from six countries: Spain, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Malaysia. This visa-free entry period is said to be in effect from December 1, 2023, to November 30, 2024, allowing individuals with ordinary passports to engage in various activities, including business, travel, and visiting relatives and friends.

Also, the offer includes assistance in obtaining a Tibet travel permit alongside the passport. For more detailed information, feel free to contact the relevant authorities. Remember that visa policies can change, so it’s advisable to consult official government sources or reputable news channels for the latest updates on China’s travel regulations.

From our recent experience applying for a Chinese group visa at the Chinese Embassy, we learned that a minimum of five people must be in the Group.

On 15th March, the Chinese Embassy in different parts of the world started to issue Chinese Visas, including Chinese Tourist visas. Tibet Tourism Bureau will start issuing Tibet travel permits for all international travelers from 1st April 2023.

Tibet is open to travel for the ex-pat living in China. Yet since there is a surge in COVID-19 cases in many provinces of China. 28th Feb 2020 update: All the organised tours in Tibet are suspended until further notice as preventive measures against the spread of Novel coronavirus in Tibet. Eco friendly eletric Bus at the Mount Everest BasecampNew Eco-Friendly Electric bus service has been started (from 1st June 2019) at the Mount Everest Basecamp in Tibet.  The Bus Service is started by local government to reduce the Impact and carbon emission of the cars at the Mount Everest Natural reserve.

The two-day Top Urgent Visa:
This service has been suspended and is not applicable right now. I don’t know yet when they will resume this service again. We will inform all of you as soon as we hear from the circulars from the Chinese Embassy. Please tell your clients not to book their tickets think they will get in 2 business days. (I mean applying today and getting the visa tomorrow).

The Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal has announced new restriction for the Chinese Group Visa. According to this restriction, these 26 nationalities should obtain the Chinese visa or  Tibet Group Visa from the Chinese Embassy in their home country:
Those 26 countries are; 

1) Pakistan  2) Bangladesh  3) Sri Lanka  4) Afghanistan  5) Azerbaijan  6) Lebanon  7) Syria  8) Iraq  9) Iran  10) Kazakhstan  11) Kyrgyzstan  12) Tajikistan  13) Turkey  14) Uzbekistan  15) Albania  16) Democratic Republic of Congo  17) Ghana  18) Cameroon  19) Kenya  20) Libya  21) Mali  22) South Sudan  23) Nigeria  24) Somalia  25) Tunisia  26) Chad.

The Tibet tourism bureau is accepting Tibet travel permit application after a month closure (Feb 25th toMarch 30th, 2017)

The visitor can start visiting Tibet starting 1st April 2017. the fast track permit application would take at least 10 days.

Depending on the place of the visit, Travel permit may take 7-29 Days to process.
