During your stay in Tibet, please keep the following points in mind. Local Tibetans are  very kind and friendly, but there are some things that you need to be aware of:

  1. Upon your arrival in Tibet. Please do not take a bath during the first day of arrival.
  2. Always keep warm to avoid getting a fever. Fever is the worse case for high altitude sickness.
  3. Drink lots of water and often try to put some salt in the drinking water.
  4. Do not smoke or drink any beverage containing alcohol.
  5. Please do not take photos of anyone without their permission; always ask permission first!
  6. Please do not discuss sensitive topics like political matters!
  7. Please do not wear hats or caps when you enter a chapel!
  8. Please do wear decent clothes during your visit to a monastery, chapel, and other holy places!
  9. Please do not touch Buddha statues or ritual offerings inside of a monastery!
  10. Please do not kiss or hug in public places, especially in monasteries!
  11. Please do not step across someone’s feet, cups or cooking gears!
  12. Please keep your passport and Chinese visa (especially the Chinese Group Visa) with you all the Tibet. Your tour guide will keep the Tibet travel permit with him for your entire stay in Tibet.
