Yarlung Tsangpo Valley is the valley around the Yarlung River ( Brahmaputra River). It is 72 Kilometers long valley. The valley begins from the Chushul in Lhasa Prefecture after the Lhasa Kyichu River merges with the Brahmaputra river. From this point, the Local Tibetan name of the River and Valley change to Yarlung. Before arrival in Chushul, the name of the river is different base on the locals in the upper valley. The valley is consider as the cradle of Tibetan Civilization, and the name Yarlung of the ancient line of Tibetan kings are named after the river.
History of Yarlung Tsangpo Valley
In the Yarlung Tsangpo Valley, you will find the first three of Tibetan History. The first Monastery of Samye Monastery, The first palace of Yungbulagang, The first temple of Traduk temple.
Due to its fertile land, It is here the first human settlement was established here in the valley. We believe our ancestor’s origin from the offspring of the compassionate Monkey and Ogress. It is where the generation of these six offsprings flourish and gradually evolve as Human beings of Tibetan Today.
In the valley, you can find the first human settlement, field, and playground. The word Tsedang, which is the name of the main town of the prefecture is the Tibetan word for the playground.
