The Dorjee Drak Monastery is one of the six most important Nyingmapa Monastery in Tibet. The monastery is locate in the Lhokha Prefecture of Tibet between Samye Monastery and Lhasa Airport.
This famous monastery maintains the Terma Tradition of Nyingmapa School called Northern Treasure. This tradition is derive from Ngodrub Gyeltsen (1337-1409).
History of Dorjee Drak Monastery
In the Year 1632, The wrath of the Kings of Tsang forced the Young Rigzin III Ngagiwangpo and his guardian Jangdak Tashi Topgyal to flee.
As a result, the monastery was relocated from Tsang to the present site. The monastery was significantly developed by Rigzin IV Pema Thinley (1641-1717) before his untimely death at the hands of Dzungar Mongols. Thus, the monastery was sacked by the Dzungar in 1717.
In the year 1720, The rebuilding of the monastery has begun under the patronage of the 7th Dalai Lama.

Dorjee Drak is a located right between the Samye Monastery and the Lhasa Airport. Its recommend visiting the monastery on your way from Samye Monastery to Lhasa or towards the Shigatse Via Gyantse and Yamdrok Lake.

Trekking: There is a four-day trekking route from Dorjee Drak to Lhasa via Phusar, Trangro township and Trango La pass (4977meters) to the north.
