- Gently, tap the mallet against the side of the bowl to warm up the bell.
- Rub the mallet clockwise around the edge of the bowl’s outer rim. Use whole arm movement, just as if you are stirring a kettle of soup with the mallet straight up or down. Remember, you must give whole arm movement here, not wrist movement.
- Gradually apply pressure to make a sound. The friction of the mallet against the outer rim creates a vibration, which produces sound.
Test your speed—neither too fast nor too slow. It should be medium speed, which will make a peaceful sound. As the singing bowl picks up the vibration, let the sound build up slowly.
