Karola Glacier is one of the most beautiful Glaciers in Tibet. It is located between Lhokha Prefecture and Shigatse Prefecture. Located only within 300 meters from the Highway connecting Lhasa to Gyantse town, make it is the most accessible Glacier in Tibet for international travellers. Most tours, which lead from Lhasa to Gyantse, have a program for a little stopover at the glacier to admire its authentic beauty.
The Karola Glacier sits on the south face of Mt Nojin Kangsang. In the ravines of this mount, over 100 Glaciers are covering over 118.82 square kilometres. Among these, Karola Glacier is the biggest one covering 9.4 square kilometres and reach to 5560 Meters above sea level. The mount Norjin Kangsang is the mount that is visible on the far southwest of Yamdrok Lake.

The Karola Glacier is the more comfortable and most accessible glacier in entire Tibet. During your travel to Tibet, you will probably never get closer to any glacier than Karola Glacier. You will reach at the foot of the glacier during your visit from Lhasa to Gyantse, after the Yamdrok Lake and Nangartse town ( Stop for lunch). Its shape is as though of a frozen waterfall right above the road and you.
Apart from the overwhelming charm of the glacier, the surrounding landscape is stunning and gorgeous. On the opposite side of the road, you have another snow-capped mountain of Mt Kalurong. Right near the parking spot, you will find the stupa, which gives you a grand view of the stupa with the glacier in the background.
Further, into the lap of the Mt Nojin Kangsang, there is a wooden walkway leading you right near the foot of the glacier. On both sides of the wooden walkway, you will find a camp of Tibetan Nomad. Before you arrive at the Karola Glacier, at about 500 Meters, there is a stop from where you can hike up for 20 Minutes to see a beautiful Glacier lake of Mt Kalurong.
